Curricula and Examinations
The curricula and examinations for lipspeaking are the responsibility of Signature. Training centres wishing to offer lipspeaker training courses must register their courses with Signature.
Lipspeaking Training
The training pathway for lipspeakers has changed and there is no longer a Level 2 Lipspeaking qualification. Pre-requisite qualifications for Level 3 lipspeaker training are either:
CACDP Certificate in Lipspeaking Level 2 (only for those people who already hold this qualification)
or
CACDP Level 2 Certificate in Communication with Deaf People (Qualification Code CDA2) Lipspeaker training at Level 3 now has two related qualifications:
CACDP Level 3 Certificate in Facilitating Communication with Deaf People (Lipspeaking Skills). Qualification Code: FLS3
and
CACDP Level 3 Certificate for Language Service Professionals.
Working with Deaf and Deafblind People (Lipspeaking). Qualification Code: LLS3
View our printable factsheet containing further information about all the above qualifications or visit the CACDP website.
Further professional development
The Association of Lipspeakers holds two meetings a year. The annual Conference and AGM is held in London or Birmingham in November. There is also a Spring Meeting held in one of the regions. This meeting travels around to a different area of the country each year. These meetings and other specialist training workshops organised on an occasional basis by the Association offer members the opportunity for continuing professional development.
